Welcome to Year 3
Meet the Staff
Favourite subject to teach:
I really love teaching maths in year 3! I enjoy using different manipulatives to encourage learning in a practical way.
Katherine Rundell – The Wolf Wilder
Anthony Browne – because sometimes the pictures have hidden meaning!
I enjoy hiking in the hills (usually dragging my dad along behind me), watching true crime documentaries, listening to music and playing football.
A very warm welcome to the Year 3 class at Dane Royd! Here you will find an engaging and extremely supportive teaching team in the form of Mr Pickles and Mrs Markey. We believe that Year 3 is at a crucial point in the life of a learner and encourage all of our pupils to become critical thinkers and demonstrate further independence. Alongside this, we incorporate both cross-curricular and collaborative learning opportunities to ensure our pupils find enjoyment in their learning, which is essential for skills and knowledge to be retained and applied in the wider world.
We actively take part in global events, such as ‘Black History Month’ and ‘Anti-Bullying Week’, as in doing so it feeds directly into the school’s ethos of creating global citizens. Through our ability to work collaboratively, we demonstrate and understand the value of respect, meaning all pupils find the classroom a safe space to carry out their best learning.
We like to, where we can, take our learning beyond the classroom and are given the opportunity to go on a number of school trips across the year. Mrs Markey is also a keen gardener who will be guiding us through the essentials of potting, planting, and preparing seeds, vegetables and fruit! We will also be paying close attention to seasonal changes and wildlife (such as frogs and birds) that appear in our outdoor areas.
