Welcome to Year 4

Meet the Staff

Mrs Kendall

Favourite subject to teach: I love teaching writing as it allows me to see children's imaginations. I love it when children are proud of a piece of writing and share it aloud with the class - it gives me goosebumps! I also love History, especially WWII.

Favourite Book: My favourite book at the moment is 'The Creakers' by, Tom Fletcher. I read it with my daughter and we giggled all the way through it.

Favourite Author: My childhood favourite had to be Judy Blume. I love reading aloud the classics of Julia Donaldson, and my author of the moment is, Jospeh Coelho; especially his poems.

Favourite Song: Ah, I love all music from classical to pop. My favourite pop group has to be Little Mix, but I love the classics like Whitney and Mariah!

Hobbies: I have a crazy Cockapoo dog called Buddy, who I love to take on long walks. I can always be found with a book in my hand in my free time, and I love watching Strictly Come Dancing on a Saturday night.

Welcome to Year 4!

As well as myself, Mrs Hemingway, as the class teacher, Mrs Fenton, our class teaching assistant, is the other half of our team. Our overall aim is to provide our children with engaging, stimulating lessons that prepare them not only for their later education, but future adult life. We want all of the children to come into class and learn something new every day whilst having fun and developing a love for learning. As part of Year 4 one of our main goals is to be independent, successful role models in everything we do. We always aim to set a good example in our behaviour and attitude by following both our class and school rules, and by learning from any mistakes we make, following and adopting a growth mind set and resilience. We are determined to become independent learners, who take an ownership over our own learning. As well as that, as I am a keen animal lover and baker, I love sharing my experiences with the children, and equally enjoy it when they share with me the things they enjoy doing.

In our class, the children have many opportunities to learn in a variety of places outside the classroom, including visits to Tropical World and Pizza Express! We also enjoy using the school grounds and our school garden where possible as part of our learning.

Our classroom is a safe, cheerful and welcoming environment, where we all, including the staff, give 100% during every lesson and activity. As a class we will take care of our learning environment and take care of ourselves, others and property so that we can strive to be the best version of ourselves. We will aim to be responsible and independent role models who make progress and achieve our targets throughout the year, but most importantly enjoy school and have happy, smiling faces at the end of every day. Also, we will work as a team, treat everyone with respect and help and support those who need us, becoming confident and ambitious role models, leaving the year with many fantastic memories.

Please follow our class twitter page (@DaneRoydY4) for regular updates of the exciting things we do as a class!

What will we learn this year?
