Welcome to Year 5/6
Meet the Staff
Mr Lee
Favourite subject to teach: I love teaching all subjects but I particularly enjoy teaching maths. I love watching the children solving problems and seeing the ‘lightbulb moment’ when they finally understand what they need to do.
Favourite book: I love reading mystery/thriller books.
Favourite Author: My favourite children’s author has to be Roald Dahl.
Favourite Song: I would never be able to narrow this down to one song. I have a very eclectic taste in music and will listen to anything!
Hobbies: Playing guitar and cheering on Leeds United at Elland Road.

Mrs Campbell
Favourite subject: My favourite subject has to be Art & Design. I love helping the children to make their Christmas cards and calenders at Christmas time.
Favourite book: I enjoy reading autobiographies.

Interests:
I love to go horse riding with my daughter.
Mrs Markey
Favourite subject:
I enjoy outdoor learning and science!
Favourite book:
I enjoy reading books about gardening.

Interests:
I love to spend my free time gardening. I am also a big football fan!

In Year 5/6, your child will be taught by myself, Mr Lee, and I am supported by our class teaching assistants, Mrs Campbell and Mrs Markey. This is my second year teaching at Dane Royd. I have previously taught in Years 5 and 6 at a school in Leeds. In our classroom, Mrs Campbell, Mrs Markey and I aim to create a warm and welcoming space for all of our pupils in which they are able to make outstanding progress, have fun and develop their love of learning.
This year, we will be studying a wide range of interesting and thought-provoking topics which support our school ethos of creating responsible global citizens. More about the history and geography topics that we will be studying this year can be found below. Throughout the year, we take part in many initiatives that support work undertaken by the children in class such as Anti-Bullying Week and Black History Month. Children will also be taught by a specialist teacher in several foundation subject areas including PE, Music and French. Excitingly, the children also have the opportunity to extend their learning outside of the classroom in a range of educational visits this year. This includes a residential trip to Robinwood in North Wales which is amazing!
Throughout the year, your child will also continue to develop their independent learning skills and be encouraged to develop high expectations of themselves so that they are able to achieve their goals. We hope that your child has a great time in Year 5/6 and we look forward to sharing their achievements throughout the year.
Please check our Twitter page (@DaneRoydY5_6) for regular updates of the interesting, exciting and challenging things we get up to.
