Welcome to Year 5/6

Meet the Staff

Mr Lee

Favourite subject to teach: I love teaching all subjects but I particularly enjoy teaching maths. I love watching the children solving problems and seeing the ‘lightbulb moment’ when they finally understand what they need to do.

Favourite book: I love reading mystery/thriller books.

Favourite Author: My favourite children’s author has to be Roald Dahl.

Favourite Song: I would never be able to narrow this down to one song. I have a very eclectic taste in music and will listen to anything!

Hobbies: Playing guitar and cheering on Leeds United at Elland Road.

In Year 5/6, your child will be taught by myself, Mr Lee, and I am supported by our class teaching assistant, Mrs Campbell. Although this is my first year teaching at Dane Royd, I have previously taught in Years 5 and 6 at a school in Leeds for the past four years. In our classroom, Mrs Campbell and I aim to create a warm and welcoming space for all of our pupils in which they are able to make outstanding progress, have fun and develop their love of learning.

This year, we will be studying a wide range of interesting and thought-provoking topics which support our school ethos of creating responsible global citizens. Our Climate Pledge topic will allow your child the opportunity to consider their role and impact on the world around them and to understand the consequences of our actions. They will also learn about the Romans and their legacy on the world as well as studying the history of our local area in our ‘Down t’Pit’ topic. Excitingly, the children also have the opportunity to extend their learning outside of the classroom in a range of educational visits this year. This includes a residential trip to Robinwood in North Wales which I am told is amazing!

Throughout the year, your child will also continue to develop their independent learning skills and be encouraged to develop high expectations of themselves so that they are able to achieve their goals. We hope that your child has a great time in Year 5/6 and we look forward to sharing their achievements throughout the year.

Please check our Twitter page (@DaneRoydY5_6) for regular updates of the interesting, exciting and challenging things we get up to.
