Welcome to Year 5
Meet the Staff
Favourite subject to teach:
I love lessons where we debate! I really enjoy teaching RE. I also love sharing my geography knowledge with my class!
Favourite book: Peter Pan
Favourite Author: Mitch Albom
I love any music. You will always hear me singing; I love it!
I love walking my pet dog, Winston and enjoy gardening. I have pet chickens too!
I love crafts and really enjoy our sewing projects!
Interests: Mr Davison and I love plants! So the classroom will have lots of lovely flowers and plants dotted around.
What I am looking forward to this year:
In Year 5, the children learn how to be independent learners and are encouraged to take risks and push themselves to be the best they can be. Through a stimulating and challenging environment – and lots of 80’s rock pop- children will experience fun and engaging lessons from all areas of the curriculum not just the core subjects.
Year 5 provides the opportunity to learn beyond the classroom on several occasions through our residential trip to north Wales and trips to the local areas. Children will also be taught by specialist in several foundation subject areas including PE, Music, French and Mandarin.
Our topics fully support the schools wider ethos of creating global citizens, with a knowledge of modern British values. Children are encouraged to think carefully about their role and impact on the world through our ‘It’s Not Too Late’ topic and learn about their local history in our ‘Down t’pit’ topic. Throughout the year, we take part in many initiatives that support work undertaken by the children in class such as Anti-Bullying Week and Black History Month.
We believe every child has the right to feel safe and comfortable in our classroom to give them the platform strive for greatness over the year. We hope that all Year 5 children will enjoy the year, overcome challenges and reach their targets, so that they are ready for their transition to Year 6 and the added responsibilities which come with this.
Please check our twitter page (@DaneRoydY5) for regular updates of the interesting, challenging and exciting things we get up to!
