Welcome to Sunshine’s Class Page!
In Sunshine, teaching is led me, Miss Mortimer, and supported by Mrs Waite and Miss Barnett. I am an experienced class teacher, specialising in Modern Foreign Languages (MFL) and have been fortunate enough to teach in a French primary school. As the subject leader in Dane Royd I am passionate about early language acquisition and promote a love of French in Upper Foundation through songs, games and cultural experiences. I believe that having a young son also gives me an invaluable insight into learning and development in early years. I understand that young children learn best through imaginative, playful, immersive experiences and endeavour to create memorable learning opportunities that will last a life time.
All UFS staff are hard-working mums who appreciate the difficulty of juggling various responsibilities at home alongside bringing up children. We are keen to provide a safe, nurturing and creative environment where your children can flourish and grow into independent young learners, ready for the next stage of their school journey.
In our care, your child is challenged to be the best version of themselves. We believe in an inclusive approach to education and so in addition to equipping your child with knowledge and understanding across the 17 different areas, we aspire for them to demonstrate kindness, to be inquisitive and to display determination when tackling new things. Both teachers have recent experience teaching in Key Stage One and understand the importance of ‘readiness’ for the National Curriculum expectations which enables us to prepare them effectively for transition.
We are proud to have produced an environment in which children can thrive in their learning with plentiful activities on offer, carefully designed to promote discovery and application of skills in an exciting way linked to our topics. Our indoor and outdoor provision areas are well-resourced and facilitate the children in directing their own learning through play. The topics are tried and tested themes which never fail to enthuse and inspire the children, some of our favourites being Space, Under the Sea and the Circus.
Formal teaching takes place in structured learning times and children are expected to sit, listen and do for short periods. Our timetable is jam-packed to provide a wide variety of opportunities; including daily English, Maths, Phonics and Handwriting lessons as well as weekly Computing (delivered by Mrs Ward) and French (delivered by Miss Mortimer).
We will use kind words.
We will have safe hands and feet.
We will use our manners.
We will walk sensibly inside school.
We will run and have fun outside.
We will look and listen when someone is speaking.
We will take care and look after our things.
