Welcome to Year 6
Meet the Staff
Favourite subject to teach:
I love all subjects but my favourite has to be PE! We will do lots of active lessons over the year.
I love anything creative and enjoy any lesson involving art.
I love one of the books we read in class, Running Wild! We do lots of lovley art from the text.
What I will help you with this year:
I have worked in Year 6 for many years. I am fantatstic at helping you in maths and am always a good listner when it comes to questions about transition.
In Year 6, your child will be taught by myself (Mr Watson), and I am joined by Mrs Hall who is the class teaching assistant. We aim to provide a fun and stimulating environment in which children love to come to school and learn something new every day. In Year 6, the children continue to improve as independent learners and are encouraged to strive to achieve their dreams. Alongside that, as I am the Head of PE within school, you will often find us outside or in the sports hall including physical activity in the children’s learning – this is in the format of challenging games and entertaining trails, which are guaranteed to get your child’s heart racing and brain ticking.
In Year 6, children are given the chance to learn beyond the classroom by taking part in a range of educational visits including my personal favourite – a residential to North Wales at Robinwood. Our topics are designed to think about their role and impact on the world around them through our ‘The Environment Pledge’ topic. They will also learn about a key part in World history with a jump back in time in our ‘The Romans' topic, and an in-depth study of our local area and the impact of coal mining in Wakefield.
Our classroom has a caring and nurturing environment, which enables children to feel safe and comfortable in the classroom to give them the platform to succeed. We hope that all Year 6 children will enjoy the year, and always remember it fondly in years to come.
