In Year 5, the children learn how to be independent learners and are encouraged to take risks and push themselves to be the best they can be. Through a stimulating and challenging environment, children will experience fun and engaging lessons from all areas of the curriculum not just the core subjects.

Year 5 provides the opportunity to learn beyond the classroom through our external visits, such as our visit to York's Chocolate Story and the National Coal Mining Museum. We also enjoy using the school garden and the school grouds as often as we can! Children will also be taught by a specialist teacher in several foundation subject areas including PE, Music and French.

Our topics in Year 5 fully support the schools wider ethos of creating global citizens, with a knowledge of modern British values. More about the history and geography topics that we will be studying this year can be found below. Throughout the year, we take part in many initiatives that support work undertaken by the children in class such as Anti-Bullying Week and Black History Month.

We believe every child has the right to feel safe and comfortable in our classroom to give them the platform strive for greatness over the year. We hope that all Year 5 children will enjoy the year, overcome challenges and reach their targets, so that they are ready for their transition to Year 6 and the added responsibilities which come with this.
