Welcome to Year 6
Meet the Staff
Mr Watson
Favourite subject to teach:
I love all subjects but my favourite has to be PE! There is nothing better than getting outside I also really enjoy teaching maths in particular fractions, decimals and percentages. My favourite topic to teach is definitely World War 2.

Favourite book: I generally read many sporting autobiographies especially on holiday. In school, I like to read adventure stories such as The Land of Roar.

Favourite Author: I don’t have one favourite author as, like I mentioned, I like to read autobiographies. I do like reading books about sportspeople that I know or have seen play live. My favourite children’s author is Michael Morpurgo and my favourite books by him are Kensuke’s Kingdom and Beowulf.

Fvaourute Song: I am a lover of all music!
Hobbies: As you will probably know I am obsessed with sports and in particular football. If I’m not playing football, you will find me watching my beloved Barnsley as I have been a season ticket holder for 20 years! I like playing all sports including cricket and golf. Another hobby of mine is travelling. I love to jet off and see different countries and cities whenever I can.

Mrs Hall
Favourite subject:
I love anything creative and enjoy any lesson involving art.

Favourite book:
I love one of the books we read in class, Running Wild! We do lots of lovley art from the text.

Hobbies: I enjoy long walks in the country side with my family. We really enjoy visiting the Lake District! I can often be found decorating with a paintbrush in my hand too!

What I will help you with this year:
I have worked in Year 6 for many years. I am fantatstic at helping you in maths and am always a good listner when it comes to questions about transition.

In Year 6, your child will be taught by myself (Mr Watson), and I am joined by Mrs Hall who is the class teaching assistant. We aim to provide a fun and stimulating environment in which children love to come to school and learn something new every day. In Year 6, the children continue to improve as independent learners and are encouraged to strive to achieve their dreams. Alongside that, as I am the Head of PE within school, you will often find us outside or in the sports hall including physical activity in the children’s learning – this is in the format of challenging games and entertaining trails, which are guaranteed to get your child’s heart racing and brain ticking.
This year, we will be studying a wide range of interesting and thought-provoking topics which support our school ethos of creating responsible global citizens. More about the history and geography topics that we will be studying this year can be found below. Throughout the year, we take part in many initiatives that support work undertaken by the children in class such as Anti-Bullying Week and Black History Month. Children will also be taught by a specialist teacher in several foundation subject areas including PE, Music and French. In Year 6, children are given the chance to learn beyond the classroom by taking part in a range of educational visits including my personal favourite – a residential to North Wales at Robinwood.
Our classroom has a caring and nurturing environment, which enables children to feel safe and comfortable in the classroom to give them the platform to succeed. We hope that all Year 6 children will enjoy the year, and always remember it fondly in years to come.
Please check our twitter page (@DaneRoydY6) for regular updates of the interesting, challenging and exciting things we get up to!
What will we learn this year?
